Todo comienza con una gran idea…

¿Por qué no puede usar su propia computadora para alojar su página web? Si dispone ya de una conexión a Internet y el servidor Apache no debería ser tan difícil de instalar. Bueno, no es tan simple. Hay algunos aspectos técnicos a considerar. El web hosting de un sitio web implica lo siguiente:
• Estar en línea. Si apaga su computadora, el servidor web, también se apaga, lo que hace al sitio web inaccesible. Si el hardware de su computadora o el software falla y es necesario cambiar un componente o reiniciarlo, el tiempo hasta crear una copia de seguridad contará como tiempo de inactividad de su sitio.
• Tener una dirección IP dedicada. Si está detrás de un router entonces lo más probable es que no tenga una dirección IP “verdadera” entonces tiene que reenviar el tráfico. Además, su ISP (Proveedor de Servicios de Internet) podría cambiar la IP de su ordenador de vez en cuando.
• Recursos. Alojar el sitio web en un servidor casero usará parte de los recursos de hardware (espacio en disco, memoria, potencia de la CPU) y una parte del ancho de banda total que usted paga.
La necesidad de software adicional. Si un sitio simple sólo necesita un servidor web, los sitios más complejos necesitan software adicional instalado. Por ejemplo, si usted necesita una base de datos debe instalar un servidor SQL (MySQL, Oracle, etc), si usted necesita funcionalidad y procesamiento de formularios, es necesario PHP, Perl, ASPX u otro software similar instalado.
Como último paso (una manera de hacer que los visitantes encuentren su sitio), usted necesitará un nombre de dominio.

Hi, my web application is hosting the web service (.svc) and the Silverlight app on IIS. Everything works fine when hosted on the VS Dev Server, but when I switch to hosting on IIS the communication with the service fails.
Firebug says the server request returns '405 Method not allowed.' My IIS (5.1 on XP) doesn't let me register the .svc extension to isapi in the application mappings. The OK button is always disabled.

Glad to have helped out, the Web Hosting scene is certainly a confusing thing to look at. Who has the best deals, who is a bigger name, who provides what services and installations and most of all price, they are all considerations that one needs to make when looking at a web host.
That said, usual buyer beware and asking questions is definitely the best first step, if it looks to good to be true it usually is…

I would change your web host. The problem probably has more to do with the way that your webhost installs and interacts with WordPress than it does with WordPress itself. (Also, I think WP is up to 2.6 or 2.7…so upgrading may help.)
I use Powweb for my web host. It's quite inexpensive, and my blog rarely has problems like the ones you've described.
